Dr. Camp Update
-On April 18, 2010, Dr. Camp will be leaving for Germany and having surgery on April 23. The surgery is to repair a damaged disc in his lower back and he will be the first Chiropractor in the U.S. to have this done. In the mean time, Dr. Mike will be covering the office and the hours will remain the same. We would appreciate your prayers for the surgeon, for Dr. Camp and his family, and for healing. Should you have any further questions, please call at 491-1232.
IntraOral Massage (IOM)
Do you grind your teeth or clench your jaw? Have you had a blow to the face, car accident, or a fall? Have you had dental work performed and your jaw or mouth is still sore?
Stress is a part of every day life and affects each of us in any number of ways. Many people grind their teeth at night, chew on their cheek or grit their teeth. Because of this, many people suffer from jaw or facial pain, headaches (at the temple or outside the eyes), vertigo, or experience ear congestion and pain, with no sign of infection. IntraOral Massage (IOM) can relieve the pain.
During dental work, your jaw can be open for long periods of time. This lengthens or shortens the facial and jaw muscles and they become taut and tender to the touch, radiating pain and discomfort to different areas of the body. Often the patient experiences cramps or spasming in the affected muscles. IOM is a specialized form of massage that can help with all of these as it can help relieve the pain and help restore the muscle balance.
IOM is the treatment of muscles deep inside the mouth. The massage therapist focuses on the neck, face, and mouth, prior to massaging intraorally. During this procedure, the patient remains fully clothed, lying on their back on a massage table.
There are four muscles which operate the jaw, moving it up and down, side to side, and back and forth. The Medial & Lateral Pterygoid, Masseter, and Temporalis muscles. The Lateral Pterygoid muscle is the only muscle which opens the jaw. These are the muscles that enable you to chew. The Masseter and Temporalis can be treated externally, but the Pterygoid muscles are located deep inside the mouth and are only treated intra orally.
With a gloved hand (latex free), the massage therapist uses her index finger to sweep the inside of the cheek, massaging the cheek muscles from the inside, and outside, of the mouth. The therapist continues on, past the molars, all the way back to where the upper and lower jaws come together. This is the Temporal Mandibular Joint (commonly known as the TMJ. Most people associate this with TMJ disorder/syndrome). The therapist will massage these muscles, using gentle pressure and a light stroking technique. The work is performed on the sides and cheeks of the mouth, not the back of the throat; so there is little chance of triggering the gag reflex, a common worry of new clients.
Each treatment session lasts about thirty minutes. Patients usually experience immediate relief, but it takes progressive sessions to make the relief permanent. Your commitment to the sessions will be a large part of your treatment, as you may need to be at the office two or three times a week, to start. However, the results are worth your time and effort! Ridiculously good Multi-Vitamin

Speaking of healthy food options, are you supplimenting your diet? Almost all of us need to add nutrients to our diet due to the way foods are processed today. We recommend Spectrient, which offers you the full spectrum of nutrients along with protein and probiotics all wrapped into one suppliment in a vegetable base (this means your body absorbs it better). It's the best multivitamin we've found!
It's available in our office now!
Cold Laser Before and After Pictures
Cold Laser is a newer technique used for a variety of issues. The following is just one example.
A patient presented to us with a bruised toe that she jammed on a stool leg. She reported pain with difficulty walking. Negative for fracture. We used the Erchonia 635nm cold laser with the “bruise” frequency setting for approximately 180 seconds. The photos below show the progress over 4 days. The patient reported the toe feeling much better and that walking had become easier. She also noted that this was the fastest a bruise had ever healed for her. This is just one of the many uses of the Cold Laser.

Also, I've been asked if this is the same foot. Yes, it is. The main thing to look at is the bruising change on the inside of the toe.

Health Quotes
"Why is regular maintenance important? Your vehicle is comprised of thousands of parts. Like the human body, you must take care of your vehicle if you want it to function to its fullest potential. Ignoring your vehicle’s preventative maintenance schedule may save you money in the short run, but in the long run your vehicle will suffer. "

- The FDA is in charge of regulating what is "safe" for Americans, yet there are many conflicting relationships with this government body. The following video exhibits the flaws in the current system and will make us think twice about how the drugs we are using are being regulated. It's an in-depth investigation into the symbiotic relationships between the pharmaceutical industry, the FDA, lobbyists, lawmakers, medical schools, and researchers, and the impact this has on consumers and their health care. The video is approximately 93 minutes, but well worth the time.
